Xavi names Manchester United amongst five Premier League clubs he would like to manage
Speaking to Sky Sports back in 2019 (h/t The Sun), Barcelona legend Xavi claimed that Manchester United are one of the five Premier League clubs he would like to manage in the future.
The former Nou Camp midfielder had a stellar career with the La Liga outfit but eventually hung his boots in 2015 after captaining his boyhood club to their fifth UEFA Champions League title.
However, while his chapter in the game as a player might be over, the one as a manager is only beginning. Currently, the boss of Qatari side Al Sadd, the former Spanish international has now been linked with the Barcelona job after Ronald Koeman was sacked earlier this month.
Taking over at the Nou Camp will not be an easy task given the current stage of rebuilding at the Catalan side. Whether he has what it takes to succeed as a manager at the highest level remains to be seen.
Managing a top team is on his agenda and the Spaniard also has his eye on the Premier League. United are one of the sides mentioned alongside Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Whether it is something he will get to experience in the future remains to be seen.
“Obviously if I had to choose, I would choose a big team, City or United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham. Also, [Jurgen] Klopp and [Mauricio] Pochettino and Unai Emery, many people who have gone there are doing an extraordinary job.”

The 2019/20 season was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full campaign in charge of the Red Devils, and although he has stabilized the club since then, he is yet to win any silverware. Moreover, the club have endured a rough patch in recent weeks and there is now uncertainty over the future of the Norwegian boss.
If the 48-year-old is sacked, a number of managers have been listed as potential options but does not include the former Barcelona midfielder. Regardless, it remains to be seen who is at the helm of the theatre of dreams after the international break in November.
