Melanie Martial hits back at Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over Anthony Martial injury claims
According to her official Instagram account (h/t The Metro), Melanie Martial has denied the injury claims of her husband Anthony Martial after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used it as an excuse to leave him out of the Manchester United matchday squad against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 25-year-old has struggled for game-time this season but found his feet just before the October international break as he scored his first goal of the campaign in the 1-1 draw against Everton.
However, the Frenchman was thought to have picked up an injury during international duty with France. He has since been left out of three consecutive matchday squads.
Solskjaer explained in his press conference before the Tottenham Hotspur game that Martial was fit to feature after a spell on the sidelines. However, the player’s wife, Melanie Martial, has now denied these claims, stating that her husband only had food poising a couple of weeks ago.
When asked by a fan on Instagram about her husband’s fitness condition, Melanie replied (h/t The Metro):
‘Anthony has never been injured. He only had food poisoning two weeks ago.’
Later, in a different Instagram story, Melanie posted a clip of Anthony cycling with the caption:
‘Never give up’.

The striker did not enjoy a good run out last season, and his performances this time around have been nothing to write home about either. Moreover, the additions of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to the frontline have made it hard for the Frenchman to earn starts.
Additionally, the club had an early exit from the EFL Cup, thereby putting United out of a competition where they could have afforded to play some of their fringe stars, including Martial. Regardless, it remains to be seen if the attacker is afforded some minutes in the coming games against Atalanta & Manchester City.
