Manchester United look towards Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as potential replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to some ESPN sources, Manchester United are open to the idea of hiring Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as a possible replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils have decided to provide their Norwegian manager with some lee-way after the Liverpool thrashing and the 48-year-old will be in the dugout for the game against Tottenham Hotspur and is likely to be there for the Atalanta clash as well.
However, at the same time, the hierarchy is considering potential options to replace the gaffer if they do decide to sack him.
While Antonio Conte was touted to be one of the options on the list, it is thought that the Italian’s ‘abrasive’ personality and habits of spending chunks of money in the transfer market have caused the board to have some reservations about him. Mauricio Pochettino was also one of the names on the list, but his appointment has been deemed to be unlikely.
The recent stance of the club is that they would be ready to appoint a Premier League manager, with Brendan Rodgers one of the options on the list. The Red Devils are keen on hiring a manager who would target domestic players and bring about a style of play that promotes youth into the team.
Rodgers’ performances with Liverpool showed his ability to transform a team into title contenders, while his work at Celtic and Leicester City are a testament to his attractive playing style and the ability to guarantee results–something that has impressed senior figures at United.

Although the club has experimented with foreign coaches since sacking David Moyes in 2013, they are not closed to the idea of appointing a British manager.
However, they are also aware that the Northern Irishman has a contract at the King Power until 2025, and a hefty compensation would be required to lure the manager out of the Midlands club. Thus, the ball is in United’s court now, and they would have to put in a lot of effort if they hope to see Rodgers lead the club this season.
