Transfer News: Newcastle United enters the race for Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland
According to the latest transfer news from AS via Sport Witness (h/t Teamtalk), Newcastle United have entered the mix to sign Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland. Haaland has been an attractive option for many clubs as he burst into the scene with his Champions League performances.
The Norwegian superstar will be the hot topic next summer as a release clause will be activated in his contract. The release clause is said to have a valuation of £68 million which is pretty low in today’s scenario.
The Red Devils will face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool alongside Newcastle. The report also states that there are interests from top clubs in Germany, Spain and France.
As an aftermath of Saudi Arabia backed Public Investment Fund’s takeover, several managers and players have been linked to St. James Park. They can do so as they became the richest club in the world as a result of the new ownership.
However, Jamie Carragher does not believe that the Toons have the pulling power to do so. Writing on The Telegraph (h/t Teamtalk), Carragher has said that stars like Haaland will only go to clubs that give them a genuine chance at success.
“They will never leave the Champions League and all the potential goalscorer records that can be achieved there for a long-term project. Yes, there is money, but there are clubs already established in the elite that will pay that too.”
