Transfer News: Newcastle eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard
According to transfer news from The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard.
The attacking midfielder has made substitute appearances for the Red Devils this season but is not a regular starter for the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even loaned him out in January this year.
But an impressive spell at West Ham United meant that Lingard was linked with a move away from OId Trafford this summer. As it turned out, he is still a Manchester United player.
The report adds that Newcastle United are eyeing the possibility of signing two tried and tested Premier League players in James Tarkowski of Burnley, and England international Jesse Lingard, following their recent takeover.
Lingard to St. James’ Park?
Lingard is versatile and a useful player to have on the bench. But at 28, it’s not like he is a youth prospect who can wait around for playing time, and neither is a player in the twilight of his career.
In terms of playing time, he is likely to get more chances with the Magpies, and for United, they could have one bench-warmer off their books next year. It’s not like the club lacks world-class options upfront.
Bruno Fernandes is an irreplaceable number 10 in the starting XI with Donny van de Beek already struggling for minutes in that position, while Jadon Sancho’s arrival has further strengthened United’s flanks.
