According to The Express, Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier has hinted that he could be on his way to Manchester United this summer.

The 30-year-old is coming off a season that saw him play a key role in Atletico’s La Liga win. He now looks set to return to England with the Red Devils.

Trippier joined Atletico for £20million back in 2019 from Tottenham and has another year left on his contract with the Spanish club. Atletico have financial concerns and could be forced to consider an offer if it comes in.

The English international appears to enjoy life in Spain and has also built up a good rapport with Diego Simeone. According to the report, he is keen to return to England after this summer’s Euros.

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), United’s director of football negotiations Matt Judge is already in discussions with Trippier’s camp over a transfer deal. Whether an agreement can be reached remains to be seen.

Perhaps there is more to the story as Trippier has been looking at houses in the Manchester area ahead of joining up with the England team.

While a fee of £10m has been mooted, Atletico will try to push for more. Whether the Red Devils will play ball remains to be seen. Securing the veteran star for the quoted price would be a good deal.

United almost signed him in January, only for his 10 -week ban to derail the plans. The Red Devils will also have to contend with competition from Arsenal, who are offering Hector Bellerin in exchange.

The Red Devils are keen on bringing in a right-back to compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer. In Trippier, they will have a player who is excellent going forward and is also a deft hand at set-pieces.

At the very least, it can be argued that his addition will give Solskjaer four excellent full-backs to choose from next season.
