Transfer News: Manchester United target Florian Wirtz keen on Bundesliga stay for the time being
According to Bild (h/t Daily Mail), the father of Manchester United target Florian Wirtz has revealed that the player is keen to play on at Bayer Leverkusen for the next two years.
The 18-year-old is one of the best young talents in the German top-flight right now and has caught the attention of some of Europe’s top sides. Wirtz has scored four goals and assists apiece in just five games and has started off in top form this season.
An attacking midfielder, he is also capable of playing on either wing. It would appear Leverkusen replaced Kai Havertz with another wonderkid. Unlike Havertz, Wirtz is not ready yet to test his fortunes away from Leverkusen.
Hans-Joachim Wirtz, who also acts as his son’s agent, has said that his son is focused on staying put at Leverkusen and making it for the German national side. Having joined the club in 2020, it makes sense for him to take his development seriously rather than push for a big move prematurely.
“Florian definitely wants to play a good role in Leverkusen for the next two years.”
Hans-Joachim has also refrained from giving much away regarding his son’s future plans. The idea appears to be to live in the moment and is focused on what is in front of him right now.
“What comes next is not yet known. His focus now is only on Bayer and the national team.”
United are not the only side to keep tabs on the teenager. Arsenal and Bayern Munich have also been alerted to his performances and are in the fray to secure his signature.
Either way, Leverkusen appear to be holding all the aces at the moment and the player if his father is to be believed is unlikely to force a move. Patience is United’s best option right now if they are serious about landing their man.

The sky is the limit for Wirtz’s ability and he is steadily building himself a name in the sport. His contract at the BayArena runs until 2026 and there is no release clause included. Where he eventually decides to move next remains to be seen.
