Manchester United fans react as Cristiano Ronaldo scores a stoppage-time winner against Villarreal
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the hero for Manchester United as they got their first points on the board in the UEFA Champions League this season against Villarreal.
Having lost their opener, the pressure was on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to get a result at home. They started off second best and would have been in serious trouble had it not been for Villarreal’s profligacy.
The Yellow Submarines could have settled the game in the first half had it not been for poor finishing and incredible reflexes by David de Gea. Thankfully United stayed in the game and it allowed them to make the difference late on.
Paco Alcacer opened the scoring for Unai Emery’s side early on in the first half. A stunned United replied in kind, drawing level through a stunning volley by Alex Telles.
The game looked to be headed towards a draw before Ronaldo pounced on a mistake to slot the ball home with seconds to spare. While it was not even close to our best performance, the Red Devils managed to bag all three points at the end.
It could prove to be pivotal in our aim to qualify for the knockout stages. We now take a look at how some fans reacted to the result.

I HATE matches like this because CR7 and a moment of brilliance bails us out and it’ll go down as a win and everyone will forget the absolutely shambolic performance of that first half. It’ll keep Ole in charge for longer.

Happy for the win, not happy for the performance

#OleOut tactically out classes by an Arsenal reject manager. Should have been 2 or 3-0 down at half time if it wasn’t for a brilliant De Gea. Great win, but don’t let this mask the fact Ole is incompetent. #OleOut

Moments FC. Took a stunning goal from Telles and Ronaldo’s unparalleled goal scoring ability to bail out Ole. We were disjointed over the whole length of the game, no perceptible style of play still. Individual brilliance once again papering over the manager’s ineptitude.
