Thierry Henry names Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo as the best striker in the UEFA Champions League
According to the Metro, Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry has named Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as the best striker in the UEFA Champions League.
A five-time winner of the competition, Ronaldo has been one of the iconic faces of Europe’s top competition for over a decade. Age has done little to whet his appetite and he will be aiming for number six this season.
The Red Devils faced defeat in their opener against Young Boys. They will be keen to set the record straight when they meet Villarreal at Old Trafford later tonight.
Despite United failing to fire all cylinders, Ronaldo has enjoyed a good start to his second coming of United. He has scored four goals in four appearances for United so far, including our Champions League opener against Swiss side Young Boys.
It was the 36-year-old’s 135th strike in the competition, enhancing his position at the top of the all-time top scorers’ list. Henry is right in believing that the player’s record speaks for itself and showcases his standing in the sport.
“You have to give this guy a lot of credit, why? Because simply what he has done with the national team, what he’s doing right now for United.”
A consistent scorer for both club and country, there are few players in world football more lethal than Ronaldo in the penalty box. There is little doubt as to his standing as one of the greatest to ever play the game.
A league of his own!
Henry goes on to add that what Ronaldo has been doing throughout his career has no parallel. He has made goalscoring an art and is deserving of all the accolades that come his way.
“What he has been doing for Juve, Real Madrid and United before, it is second to none if we’re talking about a No.9, you have to give him his respect.”
While players can have spells of purple patches, Ronaldo’s consistency sets him apart. Whether it be the Premier League, La Liga or even Serie A, he has topped the goalscoring charts in all three major leagues.
