Jesse Lingard could end up staying at Manchester United beyond this season
Speaking on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast (h/t This Is Futbol), Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there are chances that Jesse Lingard could sign a new contract at Manchester United.
The 28-year-old had an incredible second half of the season on loan at West Ham United last term and followed it up by a good pre-season with the Red Devils.
However, after United made the additions of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to their frontline, it did not seem as though Lingard will receive consistent game-time at the club. The Hammers tried to sign him again earlier this summer but could not negotiate a deal before deadline day.
The Englishman was also said to have rejected a contract at Old Trafford as he sought assurances of game-time. Since then, the 28-year-old has gone on to score against Newcastle United and the winner against West Ham United on the weekend.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now addressed this situation and believes that ‘there are chances’ that Lingard could sign a new deal. He said on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast (h/t This is Futbol):
“Let me mention Jesse Lingard, because he was scoring a key goal for Manchester United against West Ham, and at the moment the feeling is that he has chances to extend the contract.
“It’s not agreed yet, because the opening proposal was turned down and was not accepted, but they are still negotiating – United and Lingard’s side with his father; Mino Raiola is no longer his agent. Let’s see if they will be able to find a way, but I think now the atmosphere around Lingard is really positive.”

This would be a huge boost for United fans as they would be hoping that the academy graduate can stay at the club.
Thus, while the atmosphere is positive around Lingard’s camp, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils can get him to sign a new deal quickly since his contract will be up next summer.
