Transfer News: Manchester United ace Diogo Dalot eyed by Jose Mourinho at AS Roma
According to transfer news from Calciomercato (h/t Proven Quality), AS Roma are planning a January swoop for Manchester United star Diogo Dalot as they look to reunite him with Jose Mourinho.
The 22-year-old has so far only featured in one Premier League game this season, and even that was a cameo off the bench in added time against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Although he is providing cover and competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back role, game-time has been an issue.
In fact, the full-back was also linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer but United retained the Portuguese’s services for this season. The Red Devils had already sanctioned loan moves for Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, and Ethan Laird, thus, not letting go of Dalot was a clever decision.
However, Roma are now eyeing a move for the 22-year-old in January itself, according to Calciomercato (h/t Proven Quality). Jose Mourinho, who originally signed Dalot during his final year at United, is said to be unconvinced by his current backup options in the full-back role at Roma.
Thus, the Italian outfit could convert their interest into a formalized offer for Dalot in the winter transfer window.
However, regardless of any club’s interest in the Portuguese, Solskjaer would not be keen on letting go of his full-back, especially since he also failed in luring Kieran Trippier to the club over the summer– a player who was continuously linked with the Old Trafford outfit.

Additionally, the Red Devils will be competing in four competitions this season, and squad depth will come in handy during domestic cup competitions as well as in Champions League games.
Thus, if Solskjaer aims to put together a good run in all competitions this season, sanctioning a move for Dalot in January looks highly unlikely.
