Manchester United suffer a blow in pursuit of Erling Haaland as Norwegian prioritizes Real Madrid
According to Real Madrid news website Diario Madridista (h/t Express), Erling Haaland apparently wants to make the move to the Spanish capital next season despite interest from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has been mesmerizing for Borussia Dortmund in the last one and a half years and has already scored 9 goals and provided a further 4 assists in 7 appearances for the Bundesliga club this season.
Although several clubs were eyeing a deal for the youngster, Dortmund slapped a £150million price tag on the forward resulting in the player staying at the German outfit this season.
Although Dortmund did manage to keep him this season, that might not quite be the case next summer when the Norwegian’s supposed release clause kicks in, which could allow him to leave for nearly €75million.
Manchester United have been one of the clubs interested in orchestrating a move for the 21-year-old despite adding the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to their frontline. However, the Portuguese is set to turn 37 next year, while Edinson Cavani will be out of contract next summer.
Thus, adding an option like Haaland to the strike force will only boost the quality of the squad. However, it does not look like the youngster has his heart set elsewhere. Haaland is said to be wanting to move to Real Madrid next summer while his agent Mino Raiola is apparently pushing for a move to Barcelona instead, according to Diario Madridista (h/t Express).
