Edinson Cavani unintimated by Cristiano Ronaldo transfer and targets Manchester United spot
As per ESPN Brasil (h/t TEAMtalk), Edinson Cavani does not feel intimidated by Manchester United new boy Cristiano Ronaldo, and believes that he can get back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s in the near future.
The Portuguese superstar joined the Old Trafford outfit in an audacious summer move. The 36-year-old Manchester United ace made his second debut against Newcastle, where he bagged a brace.
Ronaldo also started against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League where he scored in a 2-1 loss. As expected, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star would demand regular starts at the club.
He hasn’t joined the club to be a benchwarmer, after all. But one player who could face the direct impact of his arrival is Edinson Cavani, who stayed this summer at Old Trafford despite links with a move to Boca Juniors.
Cavani confident of getting minutes
The 34-year-old was expected to have a big impact this season but Ronaldo’s arrival could push him down the pecking order. As if that wasn’t enough, Ronaldo now dons Cavani’s number 7 jersey at the club.
While this could have made Cavani averse to staying at the club, the report by ESPN Brasil (h/t TEAMtalk) claims otherwise and states that the Uruguay international is not ‘intimidated’ by Ronaldo and is confident of getting playing time under Solskjaer.
Ronaldo is no spring chicken at 36 and Anthony Martial is struggling to score at a regular rate. Amidst this, there will be playing time for all first-team players, especially if they are as good and impactful as Cavani.

The former PSG and Napoli hitman was a handful for opposition defenders whenever he played last season and could well replicate that role this season as well. There is no reason for the duo to feel threatened by each other and fans would hope that they are focused on the bigger team goal of winning trophies this season.
