According to The Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given his take on rumours circulating regarding his sacking.

The Norwegian is currently in his third full season as Red Devils boss. He is yet to win a major trophy and is under pressure to break the jynx this season. The loss to Young Boys last week in the UEFA Champions League did not help matters either.

United showed excellent character to bounce back with a win against West Ham United on Sunday. Jesse Lingard scored a late winner and David de Gea stepped up to save Mark Noble’s stoppage-time penalty to ensure all three points.

Solskjaer knows the importance of the three points and his joy was visible at the final whistle. He believes United deserved all three points and is glad to have got them.

“We deserved three points. it’s a hard place to come, hopefully, these points can make a difference.”

The Norwegian laughed off suggestions that his position was under threat. Five games into the season and United are level on points at the top of the league. There is a long way to go and Solskajer is well aware of it.

“Five games into the season, I was probably down and out and lost my job yesterday.”

Managing expectations at a club of United’s stature is no mean feat, The Norwegian is well aware of it, having served us well as a player.

“That’s with the way it is at Man Utd.”

Solskjaer is still learning on the job and has shown at moments that he has the ability to lead us over the line. He will, however, need to find his second wind when it matters the most. Until then, the jury will always be out regarding his future at the club.

Solskjaer’s comments paint a lighter shade following United securing all three points against the Hammers. Whether he would have had the same humour had Noble’s penalty gone in is debatable.

The Red Devils are not in a bad position and talks of a sack at this moment in time is rather premature. Given the investment he has had, Solskjaer will however need to deliver sooner rather than later. There are only so many times he can fall short and still expect to be backed.
