Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United star Dean Henderson isn’t ready for first-team comeback yet
Speaking in an interview on Thursday (h/t ManUtd.com), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that he believes Manchester United ace Dean Henderson will take time to come back into the first-team setup.
The Red Devils, who possess the likes of David de Gea and Tom Heaton in their goalkeeping department, are yet to welcome back Henderson back into the first-team squad after suffering from Covid-19 earlier this summer.
Dean Henderson, who enjoyed a great 2019/20 season with Sheffield United, stayed put at Old Trafford last season. The Englishman shared game-time with David de Gea last season as he managed to make 26 appearances across all competitions, although only half of them were in the Premier League.
Regardless, his performances were enough to warrant a place in the England team for the Euros but had to withdraw immediately after suffering a hip injury. Although he looked set to start in the pre-season games, Covid-19 derailed those plans and has the goalkeeper is now facing some game-time with the U-23s before making it back into the first team.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided an update on the 24-year-old, saying (h/t ManUtd.com):
“I think David (de Gea) has started really well, it’s just unfortunate for Dean with COVID and of course the illness, but he’s getting better, and he’s getting some games.
“Dean will probably play more Under-23s games to just catch up with what he’s lost and I’m very pleased with David and his attitude and everything. In general, I’m very pleased with the goalkeeping department. I won’t say here that I’m going to keep David going or Dean’s going to come in.”

While it might not be long before Henderson makes it back into the first-team setup, he would have to earn his place in the starting line-up after David de Gea’s good start to the season.
