Transfer News: Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is on the radar of Juventus
According to an interview done on Sport’s program Il Processo, relayed by Area Napoli (h/t Sport Witness), Italian journalist Marcello Chirico has claimed that Juventus are interested in signing a striker in January, with Manchester United star Edinson Cavani one of the options on the list.
The 34-year-old, who signed a one-year contract extension with the Old Trafford outfit at the end of last season, could walk on a free transfer next year. Moreover, game-time could be limited for the Uruguayan this season.
The Red Devils currently boast six forwards in their ranks apart from Cavani, namely Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Jesse Lingard.
Thus, playing time will not be certain for the 34-year-old. Moreover, Cavani was also touted for a move to Barcelona at the end of the summer transfer window, but the Uruguayan dismissed the rumours later and ended up staying.
However, the striker is now being eyed by Juventus as they look to strengthen their frontline after losing Ronaldo, according to the information provided by Italian journalist Marcello Chirico (h/t Sport Witness).
While Juventus are interested in striking a deal, market operator Massimo Brambati, who was also present in the interview with Marcello Chirico, explained why Cavani won’t join Juventus by providing a past example of the 34-year-old’s failed move to Turin. He said (h/t Sport Witness):
“I’ll tell you a background on Edinson Cavani, which also concerns Napoli. Alessandro Moggi told me that he went to the striker’s home in France (when Cavani was at PSG) with Fabio Paratici to convince the player to wear the Juventus shirt. But he said no because he was still too tied to Napoli. He did not want to join another Italian club after the experience lived in Campania.”
