Transfer News: Manchester United could use Jorge Mendes to get Ruben Neves deal over the line

According to Express (h/t Tribal Football), Manchester United could use the connection of super-agent Jorge Mendes to sign Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils, who already possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, and Fred in their ranks, were interested in signing a midfielder this summer.

With Paul Pogba uncertain to stay at the club beyond next season, getting in a midfielder would be a clever move. Moreover, Nemanja Matic’s current contract will also expire in two years at the end of the 2022/23 season. Thus, United were targeting a potential move for Ruben Neves earlier this summer.

The Portuguese was continually linked with the Red Devils till the end of the transfer window, but a move failed to materialize.

However, the Old Trafford outfit could now rekindle their interest in the 24-year-old and are hoping to use the connection of Jorge Mendes to orchestrate a deal for the Wolves midfielder.

Neves, like a lot of Portuguese players, is a client of Jorge Mendes, who recently brokered a deal for Juventus to sign United’s club legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Thus, it would be a wise move by the Red Devils if they can get this deal over the line.

The central midfielder is said to be valued at nearly £40million by Wolves, according to the Daily Express (h/t Tribal Football). Given the Portuguese’s age and talent plus his experience of playing in the Premier League would be a big factor in United completing a deal for the 24-year-old.

However, it remains to be seen whether Jorge Mendes could convince the Wolves midfielder to make the switch to Old Trafford.
