Transfer News: Manchester United keen to land Declan Rice if Jesse Lingard moves to West Ham United
Speaking on the Talk of the Red Devils Podcast (h/t Mirror), ‘United We Stand’ editor and journalist Andy Mitten has stated that Manchester United are keen to land West Ham United star Declan Rice if Jesse Lingard moves to the London based side this month.
The Hammers are big fans of the United ace following a successful loan spell in London during the latter half of the 2020/21 season. Lingard was one of West Ham’s top players and almost helped the club break into the top four.
Now back at United, the 28-year-old would likely play a supporting role rather than a starring one given the plethora of options in attack for United. West Ham remain interested and may move for him in the coming days.
According to Mitten, United are keen to add one more name to their roster in the coming days. That intent is, however, offshoot by financial restrictions.
“A week ago, I was told that don’t bet against someone else coming in at the club. They clearly want someone else to come in but the finances might restrict that.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier admitted that Lingard has a role to play at Old Trafford this season. The English international does pack a punch and offers great strength in depth to the Red Devils.
The Norwegian could, however, be forced to sell the attacker in order to bring in another player he wants. A possibility could open up to land Rice should West Ham be willing to work out a deal.
Shooting for the stars?
Mitten goes on to add that it is common knowledge that both United and West Ham admire Rice and Lingard respectively. The Hammers owners appear to be open to doing business and it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached.
“I know that Manchester United like Declan Rice. West Ham want Jesse Lingard. Manchester United want money and Declan Rice. The Sullivans [West Ham’s owners] are not adverse to do a bit of wheeling and dealing.”

Landing Rice could be the shot in the arm we need to step up as title contenders. The midfield is too one-dimensional and throwing Rice into the mix could shake things up. Whether it comes to fruition remains to be seen.
