Transfer News: Brendan Rodgers eyeing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard as James Maddison replacement
According to football.london, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United this summer if James Maddison ends up leaving the Foxes.
With Arsenal trying to sign James Maddison this summer, the Foxes are weighing up their options for a replacement with Leicester boss Rodgers keen on a move for Lingard.
The 28-year-old fell out of favour with Solskjaer last season and thus joined former Manchester United manager David Moyes at West Ham on a loan move during the winter transfer window.
The attacking midfielder produced incredible returns for the Hammers as he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 Premier League appearances, helping West Ham to a sixth-place finish in the table. This led to Moyes wanting to sign the player on a permanent basis this summer.
But given Lingard’s return to form, Solskjaer viewed the English international in his plans for this season. The 28-year-old had started every pre-season game for Manchester United this season, including scoring first in United’s 4-2 loss to Queen Park Rangers. However, before the Everton game last Saturday, Lingard tested positive for Covid-19 and has since been in isolation as per the quarantine rules and regulations.
While Lingard has previously stated his willingness to stay at Old Trafford and fight for a place in the squad, it remains to be seen how much game-time he will be afforded by Solskjaer this season. With Jadon Sancho’s arrival at the club, Manchester United have incredible depth in the attack, courtesy of which game-time could be scarce for Lingard.

The Foxes, on the other hand, could provide more minutes to the 28-year-old. Thus, with just over three weeks before the end of the transfer window, it will be interesting to see where Lingard will play this season.
