Harry Redknapp: Manchester United should pip Manchester City to Harry Kane this summer

According to the Mirror, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has urged Manchester United to pip Manchester City to English ace Harry Kane.

The Spurs ace has sparked controversy by not reporting to training earlier this week. While he has since spoken out and admitted that the issue was blown out of context, doubts persist regarding his future in London. One of the teams in the fray is our local rival, Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already gone big on Jack Grealish and could yet land the English skipper to their star-studded squad. Their loss in last season’s UEFA Champions League final and Saturday’s Community Shield once again underlined the weakness the sky blues possess upfront.

Adding Kane could very well be the shot in the arm that City need to win consecutive league titles. Redknapp, for his part, is convinced that is the case and believes City would be unstoppable if they landed the player. He has gone on to state that the title race would be a foregone conclusion.

“If Harry Kane follows Jack Grealish to Manchester City, the title race will be over before it starts.”

United have already landed Jadon Sancho while Raphael Varane is on his way. While it certainly makes us stronger, adding Kane could give us the push needed to end the eight-year wait for the Premier League title.

“If I was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I would definitely try and nick Harry because, for sure, that would make all the difference.”

Easier said than done!

Redknapp believes pipping City to the player would see United send out a massive statement of intent. One of the best strikers in world football, he would add considerable quality to our frontline. There is little doubt that the player would cost us a small fortune to land. Redknapp, however, asserts that Kane is a bang for the buck.

“I know it’s a massive investment, but that’s one which would be worth the money because Harry guarantees you 20-odd goals a season. United are putting a squad together.”

Daniel Levy is a difficult man to deal with and both United or City will struggle to find common ground with the Spurs chairman. Owner Joe Lewis is also a man not to be trifled with and is another obstacle in the efforts to land Kane.

United could certainly do with an infallible scorer who can lead the line for years to come. In Kane, they would certainly be getting a special player who is amongst the best in the world. While we can wish for the moon, whether we are truly capable of landing him is debatable.
