Raphael Varane could feature for Manchester United in season opener against Leeds
According to a tweet put out by journalist Jonathan Shrager, Manchester United could see Raphael Varane feature for them in the first game of the Premier League season against Leeds United.
The French international is set to complete his £43million from Real Madrid this week after hitting a delay due to problems with his visa. Since arriving in Manchester, Varane has had to quarantine himself due to the Covid-19 regulations. (h/t Sky Sports)
While there was some uncertainty on the player’s availability for the season opener on Saturday, United might just be able to pull it off. Shrager’s tweet read:
“There is confidence that Varane’s medical, signing and announcement can be officially completed on Wednesday, which would then allow him to train with the team on Thursday/Friday, opening up the possibility that he could feature in #MUFC’s matchday squad in season opener vs Leeds”
Thus, if United do manage to complete the Frenchman’s signing on Wednesday, it would allow Varane to train with the first team for two whole days. While it is a long shot, Solskjaer would be delighted to have the 28-year-old ready for the first game of the season. Moreover, the Norwegian has also tipped Varane to give a ‘new dimension’ to this United squad.

Apart from Varane, United could also see Jadon Sancho feature for the season opener on Saturday. The 20-year-old completed his £72.9million signing from Borussia Dortmund earlier in July and is expected to report to training this week.
In Varane & Sancho, the Red Devils will have two astute players in their ranks, and if the duo can manage to make it to the matchday squad for the season opener against Leeds United, it would certainly create a lot of excitement amongst United fans.
