Transfer News: Diogo Dalot might end up staying at Manchester United this summer
According to a tweet put out by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Diogo Dalot might end up staying at Manchester United this season amidst links to AC Milan.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer with Italian giants AC Milan keen on signing the player on a loan move earlier this summer. The Portuguese international spent last season on loan with the Italian club and impressed as he amassed 33 appearances in all competitions, helping Milan finish as the runners-up in Serie A.
However, the Italian club have now shifted their attention to Alessandro Florenzi, as they look to buy the Italian full-back on a loan-to-buy option, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Fabrizio Romano). It is further claimed that Manchester United’s reluctance to lower their loan fee demand has led to this development, with the Red Devils themselves now considering keeping Dalot.
Fabrizio Romano’s tweet read:
“Manchester United are not accepting less than €4/5m loan fee for Diogo Dalot. No agreement with any club yet. He’s having a great pre-season, Man Utd also considering to keep him. #MUFC AC Milan are in talks with Roma to sign Florenzi on loan + buy option, as per @DiMarzio”.
Manchester United have already sanctioned a loan move for Axel Tuanzebe, are also facing the prospect of losing Brandon Williams on loan, while the club’s backup left-back in Alex Telles is out with an ankle injury until September. This leaves the Red Devils with no cover for their full-back areas, courtesy of which, United might end up keeping Dalot at the club beyond the summer.

Since he joined United in 2018, Dalot has only made 20 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, although he has started in United’s last two pre-season games, including scoring against Everton recently, which in turn could be an indication that he might be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans this season.
However, it remains to be seen where Diogo Dalot will play next summer.
