Manchester United face competition from Paris Saint-Germain in their efforts to sign Eduardo Camavinga or keep hold of Paul Pogba this summer.

Transfer News: Manchester United remain interested in Eduardo Camavinga

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t The Sport Review), reliable journalist and transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United remain interested in Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

One of the best young talents in Europe, Camavinga is currently in the final year of his deal at Rennes. The 18-year-old is a regular for the French sides and has made 82 appearances, scoring twice and assisting five more for them in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Camavinga has also made his senior bow for the French national team. Quite the feat given the players at Les Bleus’ disposal. Under the right guidance, he could develop into one of the leading midfielders in the game. United, for their part, are interested in watching him evolve at Old Trafford.

According to the report, United are in direct contact with Camavinga and have made their interest known. However, the player is not in a hurry and we may have to wait to know what his decision is. United too are not in any rush and are willing to play the long game. They believe it will be easier to land their man next year.

“Manchester United have direct contact with Camavinga but the player is not in a rush.”

Landing Camavinga will not be easy given his potential. Some of Europe’s biggest teams are also monitoring him and the youngster is being spoilt for choice. Landing him would be nothing short of a coup for the Red Devils.

“Many clubs would be interested next year, like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, maybe Bayern Munich, PSG and some English clubs.”

Curiously enough, there exists the opportunity for United to sign Camavinga on a free. The youngster is free to discuss terms with other clubs from next January, should he fail to pen an extension with Rennes. Landing a player of his calibre for free could be the deal of the century.

“The player is also open to wait for January to sign a contract as a free agent with a new club.”

The Red Devils could potentially lose Paul Pogba this summer. Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger and Fred has his own limitations. Bringing in Camavinga will add zest in the middle of the park. However, that appears to be a conversation for next summer.

Having already landed Jadon Sancho and agreed on a deal for Raphael Varane, it remains to be seen if United will go big again this summer. As things stand, the prospect of that being for Camavinga remains uncertain. Having missed out on Jude Bellingham last summer, we should do everything in our power to ensure lightning doesn’t strike twice.
