Raphael Varane to Manchester United: All the details
Manchester United have all but secured the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid (h/t Metro). An agreement was reached between both sides over a transfer for the 28-year-old on Monday as the long-drawn saga is slowly reaching its end.
It had been a pivotal last few days in United’s chase of Varane. He returned to Real Madrid training after his holidays, putting some questions on whether he will be making a move at all. However, it was clear from the off that he wanted to move out.
United seem to have gotten their target at a cut-price deal. The deal will cost United £35m plus £7m in add-ons. Varane’s former club Lens will get £1m from this deal from Real Madrid. The initial £35m will not be paid up front but over a number of years.
The price is on the lower side because the player is in the last year of his contract and United capitalised on the same. Varane has agreed to a four-year deal with United, with the option of a further year in 2025. As for the medical, the player is likely to go through the same over the next 48 hours.

It may not have been short but it will be sweet for United and their fans. It’s taken a good deal of time for United to get this deal close to the finish line. Official announcements are likely to take a while as the player will need to pass his medical and other formalities will need to be completed.
