Eric Bailly unsure of his Manchester United future after Varane deal
According to ESPN, Eric Bailly will seek assurances over his future at Manchester United after the imminent arrival of Raphael Varane. Bailly is unsure of his position in the side now that another new face is coming in soon. He was also recently handed a new deal that keeps him at the club for three more seasons.
Eric Bailly came with a lot of promise from Villarreal and even showed glimpses of it. However, the fact that he played his 100th game last season should tell you how it has panned out in the last 5 seasons. The Ivorian’s spell has been riddled with injuries and he hasn’t featured on a regular basis.
It has been frustrating in the sense that Bailly is probably one of United’s best defenders to partner with Maguire, given their styles complement each other. However, he has barely had a run of games in the side, meaning Victor Lindelof was the second choice.
Now as United have agreed on a deal for Raphael Varane, Bailly is genuinely concerned. United have a huge array of central defenders, some of which are likely to be shipped off. Varane’s addition means he and Maguire are likely to be the first choice while Lindelof and Bailly play backup. The Ivorian is concerned over the playing time he will get over the course of the season.
