Transfer News: Raphael Varane left uncomfortable at Real Madrid as Man United maintain interest
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS (h/t Express), contract talks between Real Madrid and Manchester United transfer target Raphael Varane have ceased.
With Los Galacticos unwilling to meet Varane’s demand, the French defender is waiting to see if his club can accept a fee with the Red Devils. Madrid are said to want up to £59.9million for Varane.
But the former Lens man in the final 12 months of his Madrid contract. And so United have a belief that they can land their man for a fee as low as £34.2million.
Amidst all this, the report mentions that Varane is left ‘uncomfortable’ as he had to return to Madrid’s training ground earlier this week. United’s pursuit of a reduced fee for him makes sense though.
United still chase Varane
The defender is in the last year of his deal and Madrid would know that he can open discussions with foreign suitors in January over a free transfer for the summer. Moreover, the club just dished out £73million for Jadon Sancho.
It seems like the defender is open to a move to Old Trafford and he would undoubtedly be a big addition to United’s backline. Harry Maguire would also have a steady partner in defence as Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have often switched in that role.
But that, of course, depends on if United can agree on a fee with Madrid. The transfer deadline is a little more than a month away, which means there should be no panic yet from any party.
