Official: Will Fish joins Stockport County on loan

Will Fish has joined Stockport County on loan from Manchester United for this season, the club confirmed. The English defender will head out for the first time in his career as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Fish has been at the club for 10 years now and has progressed through the ranks in recent campaigns. An Under-23 regular this season, Fish’s first taste of senior football came right at the end of last season when he was handed his debut against Wolves in the Premier League.

The 18-year-old defender was then selected to be a part of the preseason training squad this season. He featured in both of United’s friendlies against Derby County and QPR. The 18-year-old provided a decent showing in the minutes he was afforded as United won and lost one game each.

Heading into this season, Fish will now move to Stockport County. However, he will keep playing all the friendlies for United at least until the senior defenders return to the club. He is likely to get a better taste of first-team football at Stockport.

Solskjaer has shown that he is willing to give youth an opportunity when the situation demands it. Hopefully, Fish can follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and countless others to establish himself in the first-team when the time comes.
