Transfer News: Leeds and Brighton handed blow by Manchester United in Dan James pursuit
Manchester United are planning to keep Daniel James at Old Trafford this season despite interest from Premier League sides Brighton and Hove Albion and Leeds United, as per a report by Sun (h/t The Daily Mail)
James would fall even further down the pecking order because of Jadon Sancho’s arrival. However, United still want him for cover as they face uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s return.
The report mentions that Rashford ‘is not expected to return to action until the end of October’ after a shoulder injury, and this is partly the reason why James is needed at the Theatre of Dreams right now.
There is no lack of interest in the 23-year-old winger. James, who represented Wales at the Euros, is on the transfer radar of Brighton as well as Leeds, but United are expected to reject any approach for him. (h/t The Daily Mail)
James wanted at Manchester United
If true, it’s a wise call from the club to keep the former Swansea man. He can be a good option to use, especially when Rashford is out, and can provide perennial cover for Sancho.
He’s not short of playing experience for United as well. In his two seasons at the club, James has made an astounding 72 appearances for the club. Those numbers indicate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s trust in him.
The Beverley-born winger started United’s friendly against QPR on Saturday but was removed at half-time. United succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Londoners.
