Dean Henderson compares Harry Maguire to Virgil van Dijk
According to Daily Star, Dean Henderson has opined that his Manchester United mate Harry Maguire is on the same level as Virgil van Dijk. The United duo has played together at club level and for England, and he felt that Maguire gets a lot of criticism despite being a top defender.
Maguire holds a lot of records when it comes to his move from Leicester City two years ago. He is the most expensive defender as well the most expensive British player. United shelled out an enormous £80m for him and as expected, it drew a lot of scrutiny from all corners.
However, two seasons later, few can say that Manchester United were wrong to pay that sum for Maguire. During this time, he has evolved as one of the best defenders in the league and has also become a leader at the back for United as well as England.
Henderson feels that Maguire is on the same level as Van Dijk
He was handed the captaincy in his first season itself showing the tremendous faith United had in the big man. Yes, the rare lapse has been there but it’s natural given United are still putting together a side capable of challenging for the title.
Maguire’s colleague, Dean Henderson spoke about how Maguire is among the top defenders in the league and on the same level as Liverpool’s star defender Virgil van Dijk.
“How can you doubt Harry Maguire? Nobody can doubt him. He plays every single game for Manchester United, the biggest football club in the world and no matter what he gives his best. Unfortunately you can’t play outstanding in every game because nobody is perfect, but Harry is a top centre-half. I’d put him in the same category as Virgil van Dijk, and I’ll be proven right in the next couple of years, because he’s only going to get better and better.”

Maguire has time and again proved that he is an indispensable asset for United and England. The club missed his services badly during the latter part of the season. United lost games in the league, and also the Europa final. Fans will be hoping he puts the setback with England behind and gives it all for the club this season.
