Amad Diallo explains his dribbling skills and opens the lid on his Man United debut
Speaking in an interview to Manchester United club media on the official website, birthday boy Amad Diallo unravelled the secret behind his dribbling and explains the nervousness he had before his Man United debut against Leicester City.
Diallo joined the United squad in January 2021 for a fee that was in the region of £37million. Paying that amount of money for a then 18-year-old clearly shows the club’s trust in his abilities.
Playing on the right-wing, the former Atalanta forward is pretty adept in his dribbling, which is something he was asked to address in the interview.
He explained what goes through his mind when he is in tight situations, mentioning that good dribbling is ‘a gift’ that players have.
Diallo talks dribbling and debut
“I think that it is a gift. I think you dribble using your technique and your intelligence. So, for example, if you are faced with two defenders, then perhaps you can’t dribble, or you can only play a one-two, so you have to use your head and your skills to decide what to do initially and then your next move. Therefore, when I have the ball, I think about what I can do, play a one-two, dribble, that is what I think.”
Diallo made his first senior Premier League start for the Red Devils in a 2-1 loss to Leicester City in May 2021. He bagged an assist in that game but the teenager revealed how he felt when he was told that he would be playing against the Foxes.
“To tell you the truth, I am never afraid of playing. That has always been my strength, never being afraid to play. When they told me the day before the game, that I was going to play against Leicester. Okay, I was a bit nervous initially, but this is football, you can never be afraid…”

With the club signing Jadon Sancho, Diallo could be pushed a little further back in the pecking order. But it will not be unreasonable to think that he will get more minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season.
