Manchester United starlet James Garner a loan target for Nottingham Forest
According to The Athletic (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Manchester United youngster James Garner has emerged as a loan transfer target for EFL Championship club Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest are eyeing an overhaul this summer under new CEO Dane Murphy, as the Reds target a promotion push under the tutelage of manager Chris Hughton. And, they are looking at loaning a couple of promising young talents from the Premier League in their bid to achieve that, with Garner one among them, the report states.
Garner, a product of the Manchester United youth academy, made his first-team debut in February 2019 as a 17-year-old and went on to feature six more times under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Last summer saw the 20-year-old midfielder leave for a loan spell as he signed for Watford for the first half of the season.
Garner featured 21 times for the Hornets and assisted one goal, before switching to Nottingham Forest for the second half of the 2020/21 term. The youngster thrived for Hughton’s side, bagging four goals in 20 games. Naturally, the Reds are keen on taking him on loan yet again.
However, Nottingham Forest will face competition from top-flight clubs Brighton & Hove Albion and Norwich City while Scottish champions Rangers are also interested.
Garner, who has been likened to Michael Carrick in the past by Solskjaer, is unlikely to get a lot of minutes in the first-team next term. So, another loan move would be ideal for his development.
