Transfer News: Manchester United and Chelsea to keep an eye on Giovanni Di Lorenzo in UEFA Euro 2020 final

According to The Sunday Express (h/t Sky Sports), Manchester United will be ‘monitoring’ Italy defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the UEFA Euro 2020 final.

Italy take on England in the biggest international game on the continent this year, and there will be no shortage of United stars on display. Gareth Southgate’s side features three Red Devils as they aim for their first European triumph in history.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw should start for the Three Lions again, with United wingers Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford also in the running for playing time against the Italians. But the eyes of the club’s officials would be on one other player during the game.

Di Lorenzo has impressed for Italy down the right-hand side and is a crucial part of the Italian squad that has reached its first Euros final since 2012. And United, along with Chelsea, would be the club monitoring the 27-year-old during the final.

A report by Il Napolista (h/t Daily Star) also mentions that the 27-year-old could be keen on a move to England, and that a £17million fee ‘should be able’ to get him.

United are also keen on signing Kieran Trippier – another player who can make an appearance for England in tonight’s showdown. However, that move could be scuppered due to United’s unwillingness to meet the valuation set by Atletico Madrid. (h/t Daily Star)

Di Lorenzo joined Napoli from Empoli in 2019 and the 27-year-old has 106 Serie A appearances under his belt. Having played professionally in Italy all his life, this would be the first overseas transfer of his career; if United are to secure a move.
