Transfer News: Eduardo Camavinga not a priority signing for Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News chief writer, Samuel Luckhurst, Eduardo Camavinga is not the ‘preferred pick’ for Manchester United in midfield.
The Reds have been linked with the 18-year-old in this summer transfer window, but it seems like they could have someone else in mind for that position, as inferred from Luckhurst’s statement.
“…Camavinga is not the preferred pick for midfield and, as stated earlier, United have a bloated midfield department as it is.”
This could be seen as a boost for one of United’s rivals for the Premier League title next season – Chelsea. The Blues are also interested in the Rennes starlet and can now ‘steal a march’ on United for the youngster. (h/t Football.london)
Camavinga battle with Chelsea
Luckhurst isn’t wrong. Camavinga, if he does join United, would come into a United squad that is overloaded with midfielders, so much so that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to play Paul Pogba on the left flank at times in order to accommodate the talent at his disposal.
With Fred, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, and perhaps even Jesse Lingard, the Ligue 1 talent would undoubtedly find a hard time getting into the first-team straight away.
If the Red Devils do manage to sign him, he would undoubtedly be a great prospect for the future. He could even be the successor of one of United’s current senior midfielders if and when they leave the club.
But for that, United would have to formalize their interest in Camavinga and outmuscle Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Even if the club doesn’t sign Camavinga, it wouldn’t be the end of the world for them.

In McTominay, they have a solid midfielder who can hold his position for years to come. And perhaps, missing out on Camavinga could even be beneficial for Donny van de Beek, who we signed last summer.
