Will Eduardo Camavinga move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window as things stand?

Rudy Galetti: Eduardo Camavinga close to joining Manchester United

According to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, Manchester United appear to be closing in on securing the signature of Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

The teenager is amongst the best young talents to come out of France in recent years. Given the talent at Les Bleus’ disposal, that is quite a compliment. He is currently in the final year of his contract at Rennes and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Galetti goes on to add that discussions between United and Rennes appear to be ongoing. As things stand, an official bid has been made and the finer details are being talked about before the deal is finalized.

Signing Camavinga would be nothing short of a coup for United. If he develops as expected, the Red Devils will have a player capable of dominating the midfield for the better part of a decade. Despite just being 18, the teenager is a regular for Rennes and has made 82 appearances, scoring twice and assisting five more for the Ligue 1 side. (h/t Transfermarkt)

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also in the race for Camavinga. However, they believe United star Paul Pogba represents a better choice and look set to turn their attentions to the Red Devils ace.

With just a year left on his current deal, United will have to make a decision on Pogba this summer. Losing him could potentially pave the way for us to make a move for Camavinga.

Camavinga to replace Pogba?

While United would be keen to sign the player on the cheap, Rennes are in no mood to accept a bargain-basement price of £25.7m for their star kid. Despite holding a weak hand in negotiations, the Ligue 1 side are unwilling to be taken for a ride.

Camavinga was left out of France’s squad for Euro 2020. He is however expected to link up with the Under-23 side which will travel to the Tokyo Olympic Games later this month. While he still has a long way to go, his raw ability continues to shine bright, prompting hopes of a bright future.
