Rio Ferdinand looking to recruit Raphael Varane for Manchester United
According to United in Focus, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has taken to Instagram to reveal his role in recruiting Raphael Varane for the club.
With Jadon Sancho already in the bag, United appear to have set their sights on Real Madrid star Raphael Varane. The Frenchman has just a year to go on his current deal and could be on the move this summer.
Ferdinand has now thrown in his name into the hat for those urging Varane to come to Old Trafford. The English legend admits that he would love to see Varane at United and admits to already sending him a message conveying just that.
Ferdinand’s admission comes after he accepted in a Q and A if he could send in a word for Varane to join United. It is fair to say that his admission for a number of fans excited.
Varane is one of the world’s best defenders and would be an excellent addition to the Red Devils roster. Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that while United have been in touch with the player, but they are yet to make an official bid for his services.
Varane was a player United have kept tabs on for a long time. He even rejected a chance to move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils signed Phil Jones in 2011. A decade on, we could finally land our man. (h/t Independent)
According to Manchester Evening News, Varane is a boyhood United fan whose hero was Rio Ferdinand. The very fact that the latter is now urging him to make the move to Old Trafford is telling. Whether the Frenchman will follow in the footsteps of his idol remains to be seen.

This is not the first time that Ferdinand has endorsed Varane as a signing for United. He said the same seven years ago following Nemanja Vidic’s departure to Inter Milan.
