Manchester United will need to fork out €40m for Ruben Neves
According to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, Manchester United and Arsenal are set to go up against each other for Ruben Neves.
The Portuguese international is one of the Wolverhampton Wanderers’ best players and played a major role in their return to the Premier League. However, his stint at the Molineux appears to be coming to an end and he could be on the move this summer. (h/t Express)
A seasoned midfielder, the 24-year-old is at the right point in his career to take the next step. He is yet to reach his prime and could hand his next club the opportunity to have him for the best years of his career.
It appears to be a two-horse race for the player with Arsenal also interested. While Wolves are not averse to losing the player, they will only do so on their terms. United will do well not to expect a discount and will need to fork out €40m to land their man.
With a deal for Jadon Sancho all but wrapped up, United can then turn their attentions elsewhere in the window. While securing a centre-back takes priority, bringing in a new midfielder could prove essential given Paul Pogba’s predicament.
The likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Leon Goretzka have also been mooted as potential additions. Neves’ prior experience in the Premier League could, however, work in his favour.
United are keen on securing West Ham United star Declan Rice. However the English international will not come cheap and could cost upwards of £100m. Neves certainly is a cheaper option and could make sense financially.
It would be amiss to compare Rice with Neves since both players serve different functions. While the former will add solidity to our midfield, the latter will offer more going forward. Given that neither Fred nor Scott McTominay are savants going forward, Neves would offer United something different.

A direct duel between United and Arsenal for Neves could work out in our favour. With Champions League football to offer, it can be argued that we are at this moment a more attractive proposition Whether that will be enough to sway his interest remains to be seen.
