Fabrizio Romano: Keeping Paul Pogba a priority for Manchester United
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t Sports Review), reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are keen on ensuring that Paul Pogba stays at the club this summer.
The 28-year-old’s future has come under the scanner as he enters the final year of his contract. There is a lack of clarity regarding his decision as the new season draws to a close.
United are keen to avoid losing their record signing for free in a year’s time and could choose to cash in on him now. Romano however believes that the club is keen to keep hold of him. Pogba enjoyed an excellent second half of the 2020/21 campaign and played a key role in our Premier League title charge and run to the Europa League final.
The Red Devils have been linked to a number of midfielders, among them Eduardo Camavinga and Leon Goretzka. According to Romano, however, the priority is to ensure that Pogba remains a Red Devil come next season.
“What I’m told is that Manchester United’s priority is keeping Paul Pogba.”
As things stand, United are not in negotiations with Real Madrid or any other club for Pogba. They have every intention of keeping him and will consider what to do regarding a new contract.
“Manchester United aren’t negotiating with Real Madrid or any other club for Pogba. They want to keep him and will try to keep him this summer and then see what happens on the contract side.”
The Italian goes on to confirm that United do retain an interest in both Camavinga and Goretzka. However, there does not appear to be much progress in either case.
Goretzka is in talks with Bayern Munich regarding a new contract while Camavinga is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain. Whether the Red Devils will go on to land either player remains to be seen.

Having signed Jadon Sancho, United have gotten off to a good start this summer. Keeping hold of Pogba for the future will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the ammo he needs to mount a serious title charge. Whether that comes to happen remains to be seen.
