Manchester United star Luke Shaw nears David Beckham’s Euro assist tally for England
According to Squawka football, Manchester United star Luke Shaw is nearing England’s record assist tally currently held by David Beckham.
The Red Devils legend made five assists in two European tournaments. Beckham played in the Euro 2000 and 2004 tournaments. It is plausible that he could have added to his tally had England qualified for the 2008 tournament.
Shaw currently has three assists in just four appearances for England. The United ace grabbed two of them in last night’s win over Ukraine in the quarter-finals. With the semi-final against Denmark and potentially the final to come, there is a good chance he could match Beckham’s tally.
It has been an excellent tournament for Shaw still smarting off the Europa League final loss against Villarreal. The 25-year-old is coming off his best season for United. He made 47 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring one goal and making six assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It is fair to say that Shaw has carried that form into the Euros. His consistency will be a boon for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who will be keen for the player to continue his run of form into the new campaign.
Silencing doubters?
Shaw played a key role in England’s famous 2-0 win over Germany in the round of 16. He set up Raheem Sterling for his country’s opener with a fine cross that the Manchester City forward couldn’t have missed if he tried to. It is fair to say that his spot is secure for the upcoming games pending any fitness issues.
Shaw’s form has also shown up former boss Jose Mourinho, a fierce critic of the player. If anything, the Portuguese tactician has now been forced to eat humble pie. Hopefully, the United ace will continue to silence his doubters and go on to fulfil his full potential.

The game against Scotland was Shaw’s first start for England in a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup. The defender has had a difficult career but it’s easy to forget he is still 25 and is entering his prime years. It is fair to say that he is right on the path to redemption.
