Manchester United close in on Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund ready to compromise
According to German outlet WAZ (h/t The Metro), Manchester United are close to making Jadon Sancho a Red Devil. This comes after Borussia Dortmund are ready to accept United’s third bid for the player.
The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the 21-year-old. We came close to landing him last summer but failed to get the deal over the line. There does however appear to be more intent this time around.
United have already had two bids worth £61.9m and £67.1m rejected by Dortmund this month. It appears to be third time lucky as the Germans appear ready to take £73.1m for their star man. (h/t The Metro)
According to the report, Dortmund and United are now negotiating the final details of the deal, including the number of instalments in which the fee will be paid. Personal terms have already been agreed and Sancho will earn an impressive £250,000-a-week. for the next five years.
Sancho has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority target for the summer window. The United boss has been keen to bolster his options on the right side of his attack and finally appears to have got his man. The 21-year-old has already established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting wingers with 50 goals and 64 assists in 134 appearances for the Bundesliga giants. (h/t The Metro)
Manchester City will also benefit from the deal, thanks to a 15% sell-on clause as a part of their original deal with Dortmund. The Germans however are in for a windfall on their initial £8m investment back in 2017.
Sancho’s wages puts him only behind David de Gea and Paul Pogba in the Red Devils’ wage bill. De Gea is United’s highest earner, raking in a massive £375,000 per week. Star midfielder Paul Pogba comes second at £290,000-per-week. Sancho’s wages put him on par with Anthony Martial, whose future at the club remains uncertain. (h/t The Mirror)
