Transfer News: Manchester United in discussions for Ruben Neves
According to Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Express), Eurosport’s Dean Jones has revealed that Manchester United are currently in discussions for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The Portuguese international is one of the Wolves’ best players and played a major role in their establishment as a Premier League team. However, his stint at the Molineux appears to be coming to an end and he could be on the move this summer.
A seasoned midfielder well versed in the English game, Neves will be an interesting signing if the move goes through. At 24, he will only get better and can benefit from playing alongside better teammates.
According to the report, Premier League rivals Arsenal are favourites to land Neves. United could however throw a spanner in the works by stealing a march for the player.
“Arsenal are the ones that keep being linked wth Ruben Neves but United are still in that conversation.”
Interestingly, Jones has argued that it is difficult to see United go big on Eduardo Camavinga after what they will be spending on Sancho. Neves could prove to be a cheaper alternative and hence easier to attain this summer. He believes Camavinga is now set to stay on in France.
“They don’t think him joining Manchester United seems like the most likely outcome from her.”
With a deal for Jadon Sancho all but wrapped up, United can then turn their attentions elsewhere in the window. While securing a centre-back takes priority, bringing in a new midfielder could prove essential given Paul Pogba’s predicament.
Nemanja Matic is not getting younger while Fred and Scott McTominay have their limitations. Neves is more dynamic and could very well provide us with something different in the middle of the park.

Neves meanwhile will be a cheaper alternative, costing between £35m to £40m. As things stand, it could be a direct duel between United and Arsenal for Neves. With Champions League football to offer, it can be argued that we are in this moment a more attractive proposition.
