Aston Villa interested in Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are ready to make their move for Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe this summer.
The 23-year-old is familiar with the Villans having spent more than a year on loan at Villa Park. During that time he made 35 appearances as Villa won promotion to the Premier League in 2019. The Villans were linked with a move for him earlier this year and are ready to rekindle that interest this summer. (h/t Birmingham Mail)
Dean Smith’s side’s interest is concrete and they are ready to make their move provided they are given encouragement in the matter. He is seeking a young defender with Premier League experience to provide cover and competition for first-choice duo Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.
Tuanzebe certainly fits the ball and has shown that he has what it takes to compete at the top level. However, he behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the Red Devils pecking order. With a new defender set to come in, the 23-year-old is better off trying his fortunes elsewhere.
The United academy graduate made a grand total of just 29 appearances for the club over the last two seasons. Despite being held in high regard, he has failed to transform himself into a regular. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the report, Villa’s plan is for Tuanzebe to challenge Mings and Konsa, as well as back up Kourtney Hause. While it is not a guaranteed starting spot, he will find opportunities easier to come by at Villa Park.
Tuanzebe is now ready to continue his development and is in search of regular playtime elsewhere. He is seeking a temporary move to a new club and appears to have offers from both England and abroad. Whether Villa can steal a march on them remains to be seen. (h/t ESPN)

Tuanzebe has a year left on his current deal at United, with the club having the option for another year. Having him play a peripheral role for another season could prove difficult in any future contract negotiations.
Such a move would make sense for United as well. Having him play on a regular basis in the Premier League will show the club just what he is capable of.
