Transfer News: Manchester United to pass up Joachim Andersen
According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United have chosen to pass up on the signing of Joachim Andersen. The Red Devils have long been after the Danish defender but they are instead likely to go after Raphael Varane.
The 24-year-old defender spent the early parts of his career in his homeland, Denmark before making the switch to the Netherlands in 2013, where he joined Twente. Four years later, he made the jump to Sampdoria before signing for Olympique Lyon in 2019.
After a season in France, Andersen arrived at Fulham last summer on a season-long loan deal, with the Cottagers having no option to make the transfer permanent. The 24-year-old missed a few games early in the season due to injury but since returning to full fitness, he was a mainstay at the back for Scott Parker’s side.
Now with Fulham relegated, he is back to Lyon. But he will be expected to move again as Tottenham and United had shown interest in the defender, with both sides looking to add to that position. Nonetheless, United are believed not to be going after Andersen despite holding interest for a while. Instead, they are likely to go after Raphael Varane.

While Varane is on a different level altogether, there’s a good chance United could come empty-handed from this pursuit. In that regard, Andersen might be a good option for them to look into.
