Ed Woodward improved relations between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund as Jadon Sancho transfer is imminent
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward improved relations with Borussia Dortmund ahead of this summer’s move for Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the 21-year-old for some time now. After a summer-long saga last year, we now finally appear to have got our man. A move for the Englishman is imminent as a deal worth £80m including add-ons looks set to be complete.
The player too is keen to make the move to Old Trafford and has informed Dortmund of the same. Sancho is currently with the England squad ahead of their Euro 2020 last 16 tie against Germany.
Despite not reaching an agreement for the player last summer, the relationship between Woodward and his Dortmund counterpart Hans Joachim-Watzke has improved since then. Talks have been cordial and United are increasingly confident of landing Sancho when England’s participation in the Euros comes to an end.
Sancho is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice summer target and his arrival could impact the future of two other players. Anthony Martial could be on his way out of Old Trafford while any attempt to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back would now be dead.
According to the report, Sancho will sign a five-year deal at United worth around £200,000-a-week. This should make him one of the club’s top earners.
Sancho meanwhile is enjoying an unhappy spell with England at the Euros. He has played a grand total of six minutes in the group stage and appears to be consigned to the bench. Whether he will play a bigger role against Germany remains to be seen.
