Transfer News: Everton in talks with Sergio Romero
According to transfer news from The Athletic, Everton are in talks to sign former Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero. Although they will face competition from Juventus and Celta Vigo for his signature.
The club announced that Romero, alongside 7 other players, would be released as free agents at the end of this month. This would bring to an end a 6-year stay at United for the 34-year-old Argentine goalkeeper. During that time, he mostly played back up to De Gea and only featured in the cup games.
He made 61 appearances for the club in that time and was influential in United’s 2017 UEFA Europa League win. But this year, he failed to make even a single start as Dean Henderson and David de Gea competed with each other. He wanted to exit the club last summer but United failed to complete a deal in time.
Now with his stay at United set to end, there has been interest from a host of clubs. Everton, who wanted the keeper last season, are back with an offer and want the free agent. However, they will be facing competition from two other clubs, namely Juventus and Celta Vigo.

With him being a free agent, it is no surprise that clubs are flocking around the 2014 FIFA World Cup silver medallist. United, on the other hand, seemed desperate to get him off their books as they did not opt to activate the additional one-year clause in his contract.
