AC Milan keeping tabs on Manchester United flop Donny van de Beek
According to Il Corriere Dello Sport via MilanNews (h/t Sempre Milan), AC Milan is plotting a move for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek this summer.
The 24-year-old was United’s marquee signing last summer and arrived at Old Trafford to much hype after a successful spell at Ajax Amsterdam. He got off to an excellent start by scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace but has since struggled to make any sort of positive impact.
Brought in to compliment the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, Van de Beek has struggled to make a noticable impact. In all, he made 36 appearances all season, of which just 21 came off the bench. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the report, Milan have been alerted to the Dutchman’s plight and could offer him an escape route this summer. While a permanent switch to the San Siro is out of the question, a loan move could prove more feasible.
The Rossoneri are reeling from the imminent departure of Hakan Calhanoglu who is set to join rivals Inter Milan on a free transfer. It is proving to be a frustrating summer for the Italians who had earlier lost Gianluigi Donnarumma for free.
A clean slate?
Signing Van de Beek should help them offset the loss of Calhanoglu heading into the new season. Having qualified for the Champions League, Milan can offer Van de Beek a platform to show off his abilities. The 24-year-old could very well make use of this opportunity to rekindle his career in Italy.
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Van de Beek is set to hold showdown talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding his future this summer. Whether he will be permitted a loan move away to rekindle his flagging career remains to be seen.

Despite a difficult season, Van de Beek was handed a spot in the Netherlands squad for this summer’s Euros. His joy was however short-lived as an injury ruled him out of the competition. He last made an international appearance against Gibraltar in March.
All in all, it has proven to be a forgettable season for Van de Beek. Hopefully, better times are ahead.
