Manchester United return with a £21.5million bid for Kieran Trippier

According to the Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United have made a second bid worth £21.5million for Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.

The Red Devils are keen to bring in a right-back to compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Trippier at 30 is not just an experienced head but also someone who offers much in attack. This is in contrast to Wan-Bissaka who is solid defensively but lacks going forward.

Untied are aware that they need a world-class squad in order to trump Manchester City next season. The quartet of Alex Telles, Luke Shaw, Wan-Bissaka and Trippier offers both quality and depth in a key area of the squad.

United have made a new offer for Trippier

United made an initial offer worth £10m for Trippier that was rejected last week. Rather than waste time negotiating, the Red Devils have returned with a second offer that is more than twice their original one.

This action, if anything shows that we are serious about landing the English international this summer. According to the report, Atletico are more receptive to the second offer and could accept it.

The Spanish champions too are keen to splash the cash but will need to sell before they can do that. They now look set to make a slight profit on Trippier, having secured him for £20m in 2019.

Having played for both Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, Trippier is no stranger to the English game. This should hold him in good stead once he completes his switch to Old Trafford. Add to it his proficiency in set-pieces and we will have another player who can make a difference on the field.

Signing Trippier could very well spark the end of Diogo Dalot at United. The 22-year-old recently returned from a loan spell at AC Milan. He has since been called up to the Portugal squad for the Euros following Joao Cancelo’s injury.

Trippier is a proven performer at international level, playing a big part of the England side that made the World Cup semi-finals in Russia three years ago. He started the Three Lions Euro opener against Croatia at the weekend, a match that they won 1-0.
