Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking advice from Manchester United stars regarding full-back signings
According to Manchester Evening News (h/t Express), Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is consulting with his players regarding affordable full-backs who can be brought in this summer.
This is an interesting development in United’s pursuit of a right-back to complete along with Aaron Wan-Bissaka. One of the names in the fray is that of Kieran Trippier who excelled for Atletico Madrid.
The veteran ace will offer us a different dimension to attack in comparison to Wan-Bissaka. However, there are doubts regarding his availability and price.
According to the report, the Red Devils are prioritising the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. Neither player will come cheap meaning we will have to be astute when it comes to further reinforcements.
Having seen Alex Telles rekindle the flame in Luke Shaw, Solskjaer is keen to bring in someone who can challenge and fire up Wan-Bissaka. While the logic is undeniable, it remains to be seen if we can land our top targets for the position.
With the Trippier deal proving less straightforward, Solskajer has now turned to his players to help him address his needs. One player who could be sold in order to raise funds is Jesse Lingard who is valued at around £20m.
The news that Solskjaer is turning to his players to suggest reinforcements, if true, is a very unnerving thought. It raises doubts as to just what the recruitment team and scouts are doing. It is never a good sign that the manager has had to resort to such antics after a deal for his first-choice player is proving difficult.
Surely, there must be more options on that table that the recruitment team must be aware of.
