Manchester United offer Cristiano Ronaldo a two-year deal worth €20m per season
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have offered Cristiano Ronaldo a two-year deal to join the club this summer.
The Red Devils’ offer will see the Portuguese legend pocket an impressive €20m per season in wages. It is fair to say that it is a substantial offer for a player at the fag end of his career.
The 36-year-old has been linked with a return to Old Trafford since he left for Real Madrid back in 2009. He still has a year to go on his Juventus contract but there are massive doubts as to whether he will see it out.
According to the report, United are prioritizing the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. They are currently waiting for a move for Ronaldo. The player for his part believes he can fetch a €31m annual salary elsewhere and is willing to take his time before making a decision.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who are also keen on the player do not have an issue in matching his current salary. However, a move to Paris will depend on what will happen to French star Kylian Mbappe. Juventus for their part are not averse to doing business with PSG but will seek Mauro Icardi in exchange. They are prepared to pay some money to the Ligue 1 side to conclude the swap deal.
While United remain keen it would appear that PSG remain his first choice. It can be argued that money is the deciding factor in this scenario.
According to the report, Juventus could be open to a deal with United if it involves Paul Pogba going the other way. Unlike Ronaldo, the Frenchman is still in his prime and the Red Devils will do well not to settle for an exchange.
