Man United tracking this three-time Champions League-winning goalkeeper

Keylor Navas

Manchester United interested in Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas

According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Keylor Navas.

The 34-year-old’s position in the French capital has been thrown into question following PSG’s imminent capture of Italian free-agent Gianluigi Donnarumma. The youngster, who is at AC Milan, is close to joining up with Mauricio Pochettino’s side this summer.

Navas has been one of the best goalkeepers in Europe the past few years. He enjoyed an excellent five-year spell at Real Madrid before joining PSG in 2019. He has since made 80 appearances for them, keeping 39 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Navas’ predicament has drawn the attention of not just United but also AC Milan and Juventus. The former are set to lose Donnarumma while the latter are keen to bring in a replacement for the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.

United, on paper, have two excellent goalkeepers in David de Gea and Dean Henderson. However, this abundance of riches has worked against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Norwegian unable to pick a clear first-choice. Both players were given opportunities last season, only to endure varying levels of success.

With the summer window now open, it remains to be seen as to what the future holds for both players at Old Trafford. Whether one of them will make way for Navas remains to be seen.

A summer of decisions

Of the two, it can be argued that selling De Gea would make the most sense. The Spaniard is the club’s top earner and it makes little sense to pay him so unless he is an undisputed starter.

Both De Gea and Henderson are keen to stay on and fight for the No.1 spot. Solskjaer has already admitted that he is not keen to rotate his keepers next season. It is fair to say that the Norwegian has a decision to make this off-season.

More Manchester United News

Milan have already signed Mike Maignan while Juventus have Wojciech Szczesny in their ranks. Perhaps curiously, a move to Old Trafford could see Navas take the No.1 spot next season. Despite turning 34, he remains an agile and dominant goalkeeper and lends an air of assuredness around himself.
