Manchester United star Jesse Lingard breaks silence following England snub for the Euros
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has broken his silence after missing out on the England squad for this summer’s Euros.
Gareth Southgate left the 28-year-old out of his original 26-man squad for the tournament earlier this month. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury appeared to have given him a way back in but it came to nothing.
Lingard was amongst the best players in the Premier League in the latter half of the 2020/21 campaign. He won the Premier League Player of the Month and the Goal of the Month awards for April as West Ham United finished just shy of the Champions League spots.
While it is understandable for Lingard to be disappointed, he showed good maturity in speaking out on Instagram. He admits to not being put off by the latest adversity and expressed his happiness at being able to represent England.
“When it comes to being involved with the boys and representing my country I’ll never stop smiling.”
He has thrown his weight behind the 26 men who will represent the Three Lions and hopes they will bring the trophy home. In the end, Lingard remains a player who always put the team ahead of himself.
“I’ll be supporting the team all summer! Good luck to the lads! Bring it home.”
Maguire the deciding factor?
Brighton defender Ben White has been chosen as the man to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the England squad. It remains to be seen if Southgate’s hand was forced by the injury sustained by Harry Maguire.
The England boss admits he is unsure of just what role the United skipper will play in the tournament. If he doesn’t play due to fitness issues, the choice to include him could be scrutinised.
